Meet Trinity

Trinity is a sweet girl who was abused then seized by PAWS (Panhandle Animal Welfare Society). She would have been put to sleep but Underdogs rescue saved her. She is currently battling heartworms, and severe skin problems and is extremely underweight. She will also need her front left leg amputated when she gets well.

One of our wonderful customers is currently fostering her in their home. She is up for adoption and also needs donations to help with her costly treatment. If you can donate ANY amount…please go to www.saveunderdogs.com and click on the DONATE button. You can do so via your paypal account, your debit card or a Mastercard/Visa. Thank you for your time!

Alaqua Needs Your Help!

aar

I just received an email from the volunteer coordinator over at Alaqua Animal Refuge.  They need YOUR help!

Just a reminder to you all, Alaqua Animal Refuge is still seeking volunteers to help out with the cats and dogs.  As you are  aware, the economy has not been kind to businesses and the refuge is feeling the crunch.  Your generous help is needed now more than ever.   If you could spend just 2 or 3 hours a week volunteering by either walking the dogs, cleaning the puppy kennels, cleaning in the cat condos, or even helping out with laundry, it would help the shelter tremendously.  If you prefer air conditioning, we are bursting out the office walls with 44 teenage felines.  Our kittens are not even being adopted these days, hence the over abundance of kitty kennels in the office.

If you cannot volunteer, please pass on the word about Alaqua’s plea for assistance from the community.  And to all of you who do currently volunteer at the shelter, a never ending thanks for all that you do!

I look forward to your reply, and from one animal lover to the next, THANKS!

Debbie Hannan
Volunteer Coordinator

If you would like to help out, please email Debbie at dhannan@aarflorida.com. You can also visit their website for more information.

Oreo Needs a Home

I just received an email from someone in our local area who needs to find a new home for her dog. Oreo is a 6 year old Border Collie who is up to date on her shots, is spayed and is an indoor dog. Her family has lost their home and are now living in a townhouse and Oreo is not adjusting well to the changes.

If you are interested in adopting Oreo, please contact her owner Emily at 850-982-2003 or email her eamoses@bellsouth.net . I don’t have any further information on the situation, nor do I know this dog personally, so please contact Emily if you have questions.

Our sweet little Angel went home with her new adoptive family yesterday morning.  It was bittersweet seeing her walk down the courtyard path with her lucky new owners but we’re happy she found a loving home. This little girl deserves the best! Now she’ll be playing along the beach in Panama City with 2 teenage girls and a new mom & dad…hopefully she’ll come back for a visit now and again. Good luck little one!  :)

Our Most Recent Visitor

I have had THE BEST time with our most recent visitor, Angel. Angel has spent the last 2 days at 3 Dogs & a Chick, hanging out behind the counter and greeting all the customers. She is a 3 month old puppy who is up for adoption with the Emerald Coast Golden Retriever Rescue Group. Right now ECGRR is very full with dogs & puppies and they are short on foster homes, so Angel is being boarded at Companion Animal Hospital. To get her more exposure and socialization, we decided to keep her with us at the store for a few days a week until she gets adopted out.

More about Angel from the ECGRR website:

Angel is an adorable 3 month old, light yellow, Lab mix.  She is a very calm puppy and is quick to give out kisses. She looks to be mostly Lab, but has her “angel ears” for which she was named. She is heartworm negative and is currently being de-wormed.  Angel is just so darned cute.

Update: Angel is a lot more playful now and acts like a typical 3 month old puppy.  She loves romping with other dogs and is very appropriate in her play. Her “angel ears” are hilarious, but may go away once her head and ears grow. She is still very quick to give kisses and just needs a loving family to share them with.

This is one personable puppy! She is super sweet around all dogs, children and new people. Angel is smart as a whip and she’ll be so easy to train once she’s in her forever home.

If you are interested in adopting (or fostering!) Angel, please fill out an application on the ECGRR website and mention Angel by name. She will also be in the store tomorrow (Friday) for most of the day. Stop by and see this cutie pie!!!

Little Hairy!

Little Hairy

Who could ever resist this face?! Little Hairy waltzed into the shop yesterday with his foster mom, Niki. He’s an 8 week old terrier mix who is up for adoption with Panhandle Animal Lovers (PAL) out of Crestview. He’s a spunky little rascal who chewed my earrings, nipped my nose and gave me sweet puppy kisses all at the same time. Niki and Madison are fostering him until he finds his forever home. If you’re interested in adopting Hairy, read more about him here and contact PAL.

St Pawtrick’s Day Photos

Saturday we had our St Pawtrick’s Day doggie social at the store. Even though it rained, we had lots of furry leprechauns brave the weather to celebrate the luck o’ the Irish! Special thanks to Eglin Pet Welfare for bringing out Freckles, Rosco and Wolfy…they are all wonderful dogs who are often overlooked at the shelter. If you are looking for a new friend, I highly recommend any one of these dogs! You can visit the Pet Welfare website by clicking here or calling 850-678-5066. I’d also like to say thanks to Michelle from All One Yoga for doing a great Doga demonstration, rain and all.

Crash the Survivor

crashI just received this email from Alaqua Animal Refuge. We have lots of compassionate readers of our blog so I know some of you will help this little guy out!

Crash, a four month old Black Mouth Cur, was found on the side of a Freeport road over a week ago. It appears that he was once tied to the back of a vehicle and dragged. It is not known if it was intentional or the result of not properly tethering the dog in the back of a pickup truck.

“I think that he was trying to keep up with the vehicle with his front legs and his back legs were dragging behind.  He has lost all tissue and  skin down to the bone”, says Bethany Jordan, Medical Director at Alaqua Animal Refuge.

Medical care is estimated to be approximately $40 per day and could be necessary for months.  There has been a special fund set up for Crash and donations can be made directly to the refuge  by mail to P.O. Box 48, Freeport, FL 32439 or by visiting their website www.aarflorida.com (click on the gold Donation bone at the bottom of each page).

Browse the ornaments of dogs and cats waiting for their forever home at PAWS and choose the animal you would like to help. Purchase the ornament for the suggested donation amount and either keep the ornament for your tree or give it as a gift to someone else. We will purchase the requested items for that particular animal…or if he/she is lucky enough to be adopted before the holidays, we’ll give the items to another animal in need. Who knows? You just might find your next best friend hanging on our tree!
